Isco played against Cadiz on Saturday for Real Madrid, but opportunities have been few and far between and the Spaniard has struggled to build up a consistent run in the side. In the view of Rivaldo, he could look to leave Los Blancos in search of a starring role elsewhere.
Rivaldo believes that Isco could take inspiration from James Rodriguez, who went from being a fringe player at Los Blancos to becoming Everton’s star man, with three goals and four assists from his first six matches.
Isco, meanwhile, has had just 147 minutes under Zinedine Zidane across four appearances this term, failing to score or assist in 2020/21.
“Isco has had great days at the club and was an important member of the squad for a lot of time, but it’s not happening for him at the Bernabeu any longer, so he might look to James Rodriguez’s situation as a good example of how to successfully move on,” Rivaldo wrote in his Betfair column this week.
“The Colombian attacker is shooting the lights out in England with Everton and I wouldn’t be surprised if Isco decided to make a similar move in the near future.
“Isco is watching James and knows he’s very happy with his decision of leaving Real Madrid for a club where he had the chance to be a regular starter and finally get back to his best form.
“Isco may consider something similar if he keeps being overlooked by Zidane.”
With the European Championship coming up next summer, Isco would love to find a way back into Luis Enrique’s plans, but he wasn’t called up to the most recent La Roja squad.
In the past, the midfielder has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League and has specifically been linked with Tottenham.
He joined Real Madrid from Malaga in 2013 and has played 311 total matches for the capital city side, scoring 51 goals and providing 54 assists.
