Real Madrid reveal latest footage from their renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu 2

The LaLiga giants began remodelling the Bernabeu – which has been their home for 73 years – earlier this year and evidence of the ground’s facelift is already present.

A giant metal structure consisting of two trusses or fastened beams that run from east to west have been erected as part of the roof construction and will rest on the two new towers on the Castellana.

New footage released by Madrid on their Twitter page showed the long process taken just to get the first few beams in place.

Real Madrid are currently playing all their home games at the Alfredo Di Stefano – where their reserve side play – while the huge renovation project continues.

The Bernabeu will also get a revamped facade to modernize its appearance and have a 360-degree video screen and a new seating section.

Plans to refurbish private boxes are also well underway.

Work was initially due to be done over the off-season, but those plans were altered because of the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic.

The full redevelopment is not expected to be completed for another 18-24 months with an original completion date set for October 2022.

‘We are facing one of the great projects of the future for Real Madrid, and, of course, it will be also for the city of Madrid,’ club president Florentino Pérez said back in April when the plans were unveiled.

‘The new Santiago Bernabeu stadium will entail an important improvement for the club, but also for its surroundings.

‘The new stadium will allow us to keep growing. It will allow Real Madrid to remain competitive in an increasingly difficult scenario in international football.’
