Official: Tottenham sign Sergio Reguilon
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
The left-back signs a five-year deal in north London after finalising a move worth 30 million euros in transfer fees, and he will wear the No.3 shirt.
Reguilon was put up for sale by Real Madrid this summer because of the presence of Marcelo and Ferland Mendy in his position under Zinedine Zidane.
After facing competition from Arsenal and Manchester United for the 23-year-old, Jose Mourinho’s Spurs have sealed his signature.
Tottenham were the only club willing to accept Real Madrid’s buy-back clause proposal.
Sevilla were also in the race to sign him, but they weren’t able to afford the cost of bringing him back to Andalusia on a permanent deal.
Reguilon has become the second full-back from Real Madrid’s academy to be sold by the club this summer, after Achraf Hakimi moved to Inter for 40m euros.
The Spaniard first joined the academy at Los Blancos at the age of eight and, once he was old enough to play senior football, he was loaned out to Logrones.
After a couple of stints at Logrones, Reguilon returned to Real Madrid to play for Castilla before being promoted to the first team for the 2018/19 season.
The defender flourished under Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, featuring in big clashes against Barcelona and Ajax.
The arrival of Zidane and Mendy, though, saw Reguilon pushed out of the picture, instead spending the following campaign impressing on loan at Sevilla.
After winning the Europa League under Lopetegui and earning his first senior Spanish call-up, the left-back has chosen the Premier League as his next career step.
