There was a slice of South American angst in Everton’s Carabao Cup clash with Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Before scoring the goal that would send United on their way to reaching the semi-finals, Uruguayan Edinson Cavani was involved in a tussle with Colombian Yerry Mina.
In an off the ball altercation, the striker put his hand to the defender’s throat, forcing him to fall on to the Goodison Park pitch.
With no VAR in use in the Carabao Cup and the incident not spotted by referee Andy Madley, Cavani escaped punishment.
In the end, it was the former Paris Saint-Germain forward who put United in front in the latter stages, with Anthony Martial adding a second goal to secure progression to the last four.
