Moyes offers West Ham contract update amid Celtic links‘: I have no intention of going anywhere’

The Scot has helped the Hammers into the Premier League’s top four this season but will see his current deal expire in the summer.

David Moyes has offered a positive update on his contract situation at West Ham, with the Scot stating that he has “no intention of going anywhere” despite speculation linking him with the vacant post at Celtic.

The Scot has impressed during a second spell at the London Stadium, with an in-form Hammers side rising into the Premier League’s top four.

Uncertainty continues to reign in the East End, though, regarding an extended stay at the helm for Moyes, who is approaching the end of his current terms.

Moyes offers West Ham contract update amid Celtic links‘: I have no intention of going anywhere’

Quizzed on his future ahead of a crunch clash with table-topping Manchester City on Saturday, Moyes told reporters: “I have no intention of going anywhere.

“I have spoken to David Sullivan but I don’t want anything to get in the way of what we are doing right now.

“I am really happy because there have been great improvements here at West Ham and, hopefully, we can continue the improvement here.”

When does Moyes’ contract run out?
The former Everton and Manchester United boss returned to West Ham in December 2019 and committed to an 18-month deal.

That agreement is due to expire in the summer, with no fresh terms agreed as yet, but the Hammers are eager to put an extension in place and Moyes is seemingly open to talks.

He is, however, being touted as a possible contender to succeed Neil Lennon at Celtic, with various candidates being placed into that pot as the Old Firm heavyweights mull over their options.

The bigger picture

Moyes guided West Ham clear of relegation danger during his first stint at the helm but now has them chasing down European qualification.

They sit fourth at present, two points clear of Chelsea but with only nine points separating them from Tottenham in ninth – with many of those below them boasting games in hand.

Moyes has said of the challenge facing his side: “We’re going to try and keep going one game at a time with small, different goals.

“We’ve got ourselves in a really good position and are now being talked about as a European side which is a remarkable turnaround.

“We want to try and hang in there. This is something we should be enjoying, praising the players for their efforts and the club for the way they’ve gone about their business. It’s a good period for West Ham and West Ham supporters.”
