Manchester United have reportedly identified Ecuadorian wonderkid Moises Caicedo as a January transfer target.
The decision to target Caicedo comes as United plan to change their recruitment strategy, according to the MEN.
The Independiente del Valle midfielder has emerged as one of the most promising talents in South America after making his senior debut for Ecuador in October.
Caicedo has been linked with a move to Europe since breaking out in his home country, appearing in Ecuador’s last four World Cup qualifiers.
And the MEN claim that after United’s change in tact when it comes to transfers, Caicedo is near the top of their January wish list.
It is thought that the Red Devils are now targeting highly rated teenagers, as opposed to players in their mid-twenties who have been impressing for some time under their watchful eye.
Caicedo revealed a few weeks ago that he would love to play for the club he supports, which just happens to be United.
“My challenge is one day to be in the elite of world football. I have proposed this to myself, my dream is to play in the big leagues,” Caicedo told Global Digital TV.
“The Premier League,” he added when asked which league in particular. “ Manchester United are my favourite club.”
“I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them. I always try to do what they do, that’s why they are there.”
Caicedo grew up in a dangerous neighbourhood in he admits that while there was plenty of danger in his neighbourhood, he wouldn’t have changed it.
“It was very calm, really,” he explained to the Copa Libertadores’ official website. “But it was also a bit dangerous because there were gangs.
“It was my fate to live there, there was no money to move out to another place.”
