Major obstacles in the way of Barcelona’s Champions League dream
Barcelona’s route to the Champions League final has been mapped out.
Quique Setien’s side still have to play the second leg of their last 16 tie with Napoli at the Camp Nou, but their opponents after that are star-studded.
If the Catalans eliminate their Italian opponents, they are likely to face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals in Lisbon.
The German club are already 3-0 up in their last 16 tie with Chelsea following the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona will be well aware of the threat Robert Lewandowski poses – he’s already netted 11 times in the Champions League this season – as well as their former player Thiago.
If the Blaugrana manage to get past Bayern, or indeed Chelsea, then there is the tantalising prospect of a Clasico semi-final.
Real Madrid, who still have to knock out Manchester City if they want to reach Lisbon, could play either Juventus or Lyon in the last eight.
That means Barcelona and Lionel Messi could also be handed a date with Cristiano Ronaldo in the last four.
The final on August 23 still seems a long way away for those who still have to play the second leg of their last 16 ties, but Barcelona have grown used to waiting.
Their tribulations in the Champions League, such as the defeats to Roma and Liverpool, in recent years have been well documented
