The name of Memphis Depay is still on the table for a Barcelona immersed in a sporting and economic crisis.
The Dutch forward is the player that Ronald Koeman wanted to strengthen his team at the end of the summer transfer window, but a deal could never be done as Barcelona couldn8217;t pay Lyon’s asking price.
Depay’s contract is up on June 30, 2021, which means that he’ll leave for free unless Lyon sell him in the winter market.
According to L’Equipe, Lyon would be willing to reduce their valuation significantly to make it easier to cash in on him, possibly taking him closer to Barcelona.
The Blaugrana are not the only club interested in Depay as Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation, though it would be more complicated as domestic rivals.
Depay had an agreement with Barcelona in the summer and showed his interest in making the move, but is now staying silent and waiting for movement between the clubs.
On Saturday, in a 4-1 win over Nice, he showed his quality again with a fine Panenka penalty which has gone viral across the world.
This season, he has scored eight goals in 15 games and it seems clear that he won’t renew his contract at Lyon, which is causing problems with their fanbase.
