Cristiano Ronaldo has finally scored a Champions League goal against Barcelona, at the sixth time of asking.
The Portuguese had faced the Catalans five times in Europe’s elite club competition before Tuesday evening, when he slotted away a penalty at the Camp Nou to put Juventus ahead.
In 2007/08 an 2008/09, Cristiano came up against the Blaugrana three times, before taking them on twice more with Real Madrid in 2010/11. With Victor Valdes in goal on each of those occasions, the forward was frustrated.
Cristiano Ronaldo even missed a penalty for United against Barcelona on April 23, 2008, but on Tuesday he made no mistake from 12 yards up against Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The former Real Madrid forward missed out in Turin due to the coronavirus, but he has now taken his tally in this season’s Champions League to three, following goals against Ferencvaros and Dynamo Kiev. He already has eight goals this Serie A season as well.
In all, he has 19 goals against Barcelona in all competitions. He scored nine times against them in LaLiga Santander, five in the Copa del Rey and four in the Supercopa de Espana.
